It’s almost time to
set the night alight as Jozi gears up for the Neon Run: an electrifying night
race and music festival combination that promises fun for the entire family,
and SA's ultimate training experience Planet Fitness is joining in the
festivities as the official fitness partner for the run. It’s all happening on
the 2nd of September 2017
at St Stithians College in Sandton. Doors open at 2pm and the race itself kicks
off at sunset, so that participants can fully enjoy the dazzling light
activations and magical glow zones set up along the 5km course. Whether you
want to sprint to the finish, jog, stroll, skate or bike, everyone is
encouraged to get kitted out in their funkiest neon gear and get involved. To
keep the vibe going, the music festival kicks off as doors open and some of SA’s hottest local
talent will be lighting up the stage.
Runners can get
amped and warm up before the race at the Planet Fitness zones and there will be
demonstrations happening on stage showcasing some moves to do to get hyped up
and active. Part of the Neon Run's appeal is that people of all fitness levels
can take part in the run but for those wanting to get in shape for summer there
will be Planet Fitness representatives on hand with info on membership options.
Once crossing the
finish line, runners can stick around to enjoy the entertainment, with the
music going on until 11:30pm. Party along with 5FM’s DJ Nick Hamman, Strange Loving Ft Apple Gule, Monark, DJ Abby Nurock, 5FM’s Kyle Cassim and
the Kiffness, and enjoy food stalls, chill areas, dance areas and a bar for
over-18s only. The entire event will use Howler’s cash-free card
system, with convenient stations set up for event-goers to load credit onto
pre-paid Howler cards, and users can get a refund after the event for any
credit not spent.
Anyone unsure of
where to park can keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates next week https://web.facebook.com/NeonRunSA/, for more
information on what to wear or what to bring check out the FAQ page at http://www.neonrun.co.za/faqs/ - but the organisers
emphasise that the event is for everyone and anyone wanting to have a good
time. If you don’t own anything neon, don’t despair, as there
will be plenty of paint and neon goodies for sale so that you can get that
luminous look. Although the event attendance is anticipated to be at an
all-time high, there are some tickets left for sale for last minute entrants
(and check out the discounts for kids and group bookings as well). Go to http://www.neonrun.co.za/tickets-and-registration/ to book.
Creator of the Neon
Run SA, Tavis Brown, says “Jozi, Get Ready, Set, Glow! We have
been working tirelessly to make this Neon Run the most spectacular one yet and
we are so excited to see everyone enjoying the event. This is the perfect
excuse for everyone to get creative, get colourful and let their hair down as
we shake off the winter blues and move into spring. For those wanting to keep
that momentum going, we have teamed up with Planet Fitness as a partner for the
event."
According to Manny
Rivera, CEO of Planet Fitness, "We love the fact that the Neon Run makes
getting out there and getting active such a fun experience. Planet Fitness
embodies the same ethos of making fitness fun, offering a variety of group
exercise classes and world-class equipment for South Africans looking to take
the leap and get into shape, or for those wanting to take their training to the
next level. We encourage everyone at the run to come and check us out for some
great prizes, warm ups and a taste of what we are about!”
