Last night was the official launch of Karma’s
new single IMAGE. Where she debuted herself as well as her new material and
gave us a taste of some beautifully done covers as well. To show us what she
could do.
It was an incredible experience to watch
someone come on stage, give it her all and completely succeed. I was completely
impressed by the way Karma came onto stage and completely showed us who was
boss. She came on stage wearing a long red cape with a beautiful black number
underneath. She captivated her audience from the minute she began to sing to
the minute she ended. (Which I find incredibly difficult to do nowadays)
The venue was at News Café Sandton, a top
class venue with amazing decor and an amazing vibe. There was staging a
lighting set up especially for Karma and her band. It was classy and elegant
with a touch of edge. I absolutely loved the vibe, I loved being outside and
not being cold and I loved that there was the skyscrapers of Santon for a perfect
backdrop.
The band was incredible. There were diverse
and phenomenally talented. I could sit and listen to them play all day. They
created sounds that made your skin get goose bumps. They were really fantastic
and I feel that Karma could not have had a better sound if she had used other
musicians. They complemented her so well and she them.
Overall it was the best night, and I could
not have asked for better.
For more info on Karma please read below:
“Karma is one of a new breed of artists
emerging from the urban jungles of post Mandela South Africa. Bold, edgy,
elegant and integrated, Karma`s musical melting pot takes in such diverse
influences as urban pop, electronica and trap-step , creating a unique and
striking tapestry that mirrors her life experience.
From an early age music and the performing
arts have fed her soul, training in Latin American dance, a discipline which in
turn has impacted into her exhilarating live performances. Her striking and
captivating personality, coupled with a vibrant and sexy on-stage energy and
attitude, exudes authenticity and originality. Karma uses the stage as a
visceral medium to express her creativity and to empower, inspire and connect
with people.
She doesn’t shift the musical goalposts
because her attitude is that there aren’t any!
Set against looped trap beats with swirling
ambient synths, Karma`s swooping, ethereal vocals grace her debut single
“Image”, a dark but uplifting song about love and it`s many obsessions. It`s
frightfully spunky pop sensibility stays with the listener long after the song
has ended. Accompanied by a haunting, memorable video shot by Liam Halfpenny
(Johnny Apple, Tholwana, Chiano Sky), the juxtaposed yin /yang imagery makes
for compulsive viewing.
Trend bucking, intoxicating and addictive,
“Image” announces the arrival of a new kind of artist, one who doesn’t play by
the rules of the industry and is determined to forge her own artistic path.”
