Destiny speaks for Sharmilla Pillay at Sibaya Casino

In an unusual twist of fate, Sharmilla Pillay got to drive away from Sibaya Casino in a nifty Kia Picanto worth R135 000 on Friday, 25 August 2017. The car was clearly destined to be hers after not one but two ticketholders were unable to claim the prize.

According to Sibaya’s Marketing Manager, Robbie Naidoo, the first ticketholder was called up as the winner. With 90 seconds to respond, the guest got to the stage just in time only to discover that he did not have his identity document with him – a prerequisite to claim the prize. The draw was declared null and void, and another ticket was drawn.

“Lo and behold, the second ticketholder arrived on stage and found that he too did not have his identity document with him either. Without enough time to search his car for the document, he was disqualified. It was then that the draw was done for a third time and Sharmilla Pillay was called as the winner. Successfully producing her identity document, she was able to claim the car.
“In my 15 years in the gaming industry, I have never seen a car winner being disqualified. To get two consecutively is extremely uncanny. From a gaming perspective, it’s like lighting striking twice in the same place. The car seemed destined for Sharmilla Pillay,” he smiles.
