Friday night (25 August) saw the opening of the newest Nataniël
Show, 30 years, 90 minutes at Emperors Palace. The show was cleverly 90 minutes,
which was a full 90 minutes of laughter, entertainment, and pure performance. Nataniël
celebrates 3 decades in the entertainment industry with more than 6 000 live
performances, 79 stage productions, 17 music albums and 17 published books
under his belt, what can this man not accomplish and be a complete success at?
What
is absolutely phenomenal, not only his performance, but his consistent (but
never boring, but pure excitement, consistent in the way that he hasn’t fallen
off of the entertainment road) talent and success in the entertainment
industry.
I love the way he captures his audience in everything he
does, whether it be his amazing voice whilst singing, or his outstanding
costumes (& costume changes, within seconds), or his hilarious comedic
talent. This man can tell jokes and stories fluently in both English and Afrikaans,
which to me, not many can accomplish along with the humour. I cannot say exactly
what my favourite part was, because it was all amazing, however, for the sake
of the piece, I must say the costume design and implementation was my absolute favourite
of the show. The design work on the costumes were extraordinarily intricate,
beautiful and creative. The colours were emphasised, the bead work…impeccable,
and the over the top manner (obviously in the best possible way) was just so
amazing and so true to who he is!
I loved his strictness as well with regards to cell phones,
in the beginning you are told to put your phones otherwise you might as well
watch him on the TV. I love this in a world where technology is taking over, it
gives you that time to truly listen and enjoy the moment
I would recommend this show to everyone looking for a good
laugh, looking for some fashion ideas, and/or looking for a great night out!
Nataniël will be joined on stage by fellow performers, Charl
du Plessis (piano), Juan Oosthusizen (guitar), Werner Spies (bass), Hugo Radyn
(drums), Dihan Slabbert (vocals), and Nicolaas Swart (vocals).
