Sun City plays host to first ever Commonwealth Cup Dance Championships in September

In September 2017, dancers from around the world will convene at Sun City for the inaugural Commonwealth Cup Dance Championships. This illustrious competition, which will take place every second year in a different Commonwealth country, is brought to South Africa for the first time by the South African Body of Dance which also stages the annual Battle of the Giants competition at Sun City. The Commonwealth Cup Dance Championships will rock Sun City’s Sun Arena (Superbowl) with spectacular dance displays, stunning costumes and thumping sound from 4 to 7 September 2017.
Dancers from countries such as South Africa, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and Ghana will compete for titles in several categories. These include Pure Hip Hop, Jazz, Modern, Ballet, Tap and Showdance.

“Sun City, which proudly hosts the annual Battle of the Giants dance championships, is thrilled to be part of bringing the inaugural Commonwealth Cup Dance Championships to South Africa. This is particularly exciting since this is the first time ever that the competition is being organised and South Africa is the first host country. We look forward to welcoming the local and international competitors to Sun Arena (Superbowl),” says Raul de Lima, the General Manager at Sun City.

While the competition plays out at Sun Arena (Superbowl), dance workshops will take place in the Warriors Hall which is located in Sun City’s newentertainment and conferencing hub, Sun Central. These workshops will be hosted by international trainers and celebrities including Matthew Clark (United States), Sheldon Perry (Australia) and Jordan Clark (Canada).

Buoyed by the response to the Battle of the Giants dance competition, which attracted over 9 000 spectators over the course of the three day competition, Sun City expects an influx of visitors at the resort to watch the Commonwealth Cup Dance Championships. Spectators are welcome at the event which is sure to create Memorable Moments. Tickets can be booked at Computicket at a cost of R120 per person and will also be sold in the Lupata Room, in Sun Central, for the duration of the event.
