The
Jozi night was alight with colour and sound this past Saturday the 2nd of
September as thousands of athletes, families and music lovers gathered for the spring
edition of the Neon Run SA. Hosted at St Stithians College in Sandton, the
event was an incredible success, participants dressed in their funkiest neon
gear, tackled the 5km night-run course and enjoyed the onstage festivities.
The
Neon Run is rapidly becoming an SA favourite thanks to their clever combination
of sizzling entertainment in the form of hot local SA music acts and a course
that delights and amazes runners with its light up activations. Attendees are
encouraged to be as silly, creative and festive as possible and as usual, Jozi
crowds did not disappoint, turning up in everything from tutus to fairy wings
and wigs, all in eye-catching neon. In addition, the crowd wore huge smiles as
they danced into the night to the sounds of 5FM's Nick Hamman, Strange Loving
Ft Apple Gule, DJ Abby Nurock, the Kiffness and 5FM's Kyle Cassim.
The
Neon Run's official fitness partner, Planet Fitness, was on the ground during
the day to educate people about what Planet Fitness has to offer to help them
on their journey to health, and there were also fun fitness demonstrations on
stage. The innovative new iER app was also promoted at the event to demonstrate
to people how to use the free emergency alert app, which connects the user to a
central control room which in turn is able to dispatch help from a network of
services which includes the SAPS, the Fire Services Department, emergency
medical services, search and rescue, tow trucks and many others.
Neon
Run SA creator Tavis Brown is ecstatic about the turn out on the day. He says:
"We had an incredible showing and seeing everyone dressed to thrill in
their dazzling day-glo outfits was really amazing. The day was a solid success
and the Neon Run SA events are proving to be hugely popular with South Africans
of all ages so make sure to keep an eye on our social media for updates on what
is happening next." He also adds, " We would like to sincerely thank
all of our sponsors and participants for their support, energy and
enthusiasm."
