Celebrate South African music Through the Years at GrandWest

True to its promise to help build and support a thriving performing arts industry, GrandWest collaborates with the Cape Music Institute to give emerging entertainers a platform to showcase their talents in an exciting music show, Through the Years, over the Heritage Day weekend. Through the Years, a musical tribute to South Africa’s legends, will run at the Roxy Revue Bar on 22, 23 and 24 September 2017.

The exuberant two hour show is produced and directed by students from the Cape Music Institute. Some 50 students have been intricately involved in bringing the show to life. Proceeds raised through ticket sales will help to sustain the Cape Music Institute’s operations and services. Tickets are R100 per person and can be booked by contacting info@capemusicinstitute.co.za. Shows will take place at 20h00 on the Friday and at 17h00 on theSaturday and Sunday.

“Sun International has been at the forefront of reviving performing arts in South Africa for a number of years. GrandWest is equally passionate about building a sustainable performing arts industry, specifically in the Western Cape. This most certainly has to begin with attracting young people to the field and giving them an opportunity to show off and develop their talents.

“We are thrilled to give the students from the Cape Music Institute a chance to produce and stage their own show at the Roxy Revue Bar, fittingly over the Heritage Day weekend.  We are heartened by the excitement, passion and talent for the performing arts that is becoming more evident amongst the youth,” says GrandWest’s PR and Promotions Manager, Elouise Matthys.

The Cape Music Institute was established in 2006 to actively develop and cultivate local young talent in the creative industry. The Cape Music Institute has a multidisciplinary approach to music education and the practical development of talented musicians. It offers comprehensive educational programmes which promote the highest levels of professional development and challenge students to achieve their greatest potential. The Cape Music Institute is led by principal, Camillo Lombard, who is an internationally acclaimed pianist and a legend in his own right.
