Hot 91.9FM, through it’s Hot Cares community engagement initiative , together with SEESA, awarded accounting student, Penelope Lekgau, a bursary of R100 000 to further her studies.
Penny has studied at the University of Johannesburg since 2011, completed her B COM degree and was then enrolled for the bridging programme to do CTA for a further 2 years. Currently ranked number 35 on the University of Johannesburg's CTA ranking list (in a class of 498 students), she was nominated by Jelvin Griffion, a lecturer at UJ for this bursary.
Penny’s mother, a single parent of 4 is an informal trader who is unable to assist with furthering Penny’s education. In Penny’s letter she writes, “even though I come from a disadvantaged background, I never let those circumstances determine my future.”
Penny is very interested in enrolling to serve academic articles at the University of Johannesburg next year. She has not signed a training contract with a firm yet, but would like to sign with one of the big 4 firms in order to be able to serve academic articles at UJ.
“Our goal is to contribute to South Africa’s future through tertiary education. We are starting with Accounting bursaries and hope to develop the successful candidates to Chartered Accountants.” – Roelof le Roux, SEESA Financial Director
Lloyd Madurai, Founder and Managing Director of Hot 91.9FM concluded, "Over the past 3 years, Hot 91.9 has provided much-needed assistance and support to those in need within our community. Hot Cares would like to thank SEESA for their generosity, kindness, and support in assisting us in making a meaningful difference within our community."
