LOCAL MUSOS, DECEMBER STREETS, RELEASE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW SINGLE, ‘WILD HEART’ FEATURING CAPE TOWN’S GUTTER POP TRIO, THIEVE

Image: December Streets ‘Wild Heart’ Single Cover

Blending guitar-driven sounds and powerful synths with rhythmic vocal hooks, December Streets have climbed to fame with their dynamic and addictive indie-pop hits, most recently resulting in critically acclaimed singles such as ‘I’ll Try’, ‘Santa Fe’ and ‘Mexico’.

After months in the studio and on the road, experimenting and re-writing material over and over, the band have finally completed their first new single set to be a Summer hit, called ‘Wild Heart’. The fresh track features one of Cape Town’s prize exports and gutter pop trio, Thieve.

The single delves into the moment of trying to grab hold of the person you love who’s moving faster than you are. ‘It addresses the realization that an old love is moving on and slipping out of your grip. While you’re trying to figure out what is actually happening, the other has already lived a full, different life.’, says Tristan Coetzee from December Streets.

Wild Heart talks about trying to keep up with a wild heart. Tristan adds, ‘You’re completely absorbed and living the moment but realize the other person cannot or does not want to be contained in the confides of your relationship. Their eagerness, hunger for life driven by a motive you will never understand - ambition, fear, adventure and self-discovery, always on the search for something more’.

The track talks of coming to terms with the understanding that when you cannot keep up, no matter how much you adapt and try to keep that person close. First trying everything that you can to keep up, adapt, change but slowly realizing that it’s a losing battle. While when you hold dearly onto the idea of the relationship that has carried you, you then realize it is no longer there. The search for the Wild Heart that you will never find, because you cannot, and it does not want to be found.

The single releases today on iTunes available for download here and also Pre-order December Streets’ new EP, ‘Wild Heart’, today and get two free tracks: http://bit.ly/DecemberStreetsWildHeart

Quads 4 Quads riders end world’s biggest off-road ride at Carnival City

On 8 October 2017, the spectacular 1000 km journey of hundreds of quads and two wheel motorcycles comes to a roaring end at Carnival City as part of the 14th annual Quads 4 Quads riding holiday.

This journey, all in aid of QASA (Quadpara Association of South Africa), will see people from all walks of life travelling from Ballito in KwaZulu-Natal on 4 October to Carnival City – in the dirt. Motorcycles, quads, buggies, adventure bikes and side-by-sides will join in the mass migration to raise much-needed funds.

QASA is an NPO of quadriplegics and paraplegics with the vision that all quadriplegics and paraplegics live their lives to their full potential. QASA provides products, projects and services, as well as lobby, advocacy and prevention programs to ensure their vision, mission and goals are achieved. One of QASA’s main focus areas is skills development and capacity building.  With limited access to education and the formal labour market, and in many cases reliant on government’s disability grant of R1 500 per month, quadriplegics and paraplegics are often left with little choice but to be dependent on family members for a home.

“It is an honour for us to once again play a role in this fundraiser for such a worthy cause,” says Michelle Smith, Marketing Manager at Carnival City.
This year the trail is totally different to years before and riders and their families and friends will see all things off-road, from the rolling hills of KZN, to thick indigenous forests to rocky mountain passes, dams, rivers and beautiful farmlands.  Approximately 250 km will be covered by each rider every day.

This journey comprises not only of a start and finish, but the inclusion of and outreach in all the communities that are passed through on the ride.  Soccer, tennis and netballs are handed out. Vegetable seeds for the many vegetable gardens started by participants on their drive through in prior years are handed out all along the trail.  Schools in the rural areas along the way are also targeted as recipients, receiving donations of pens, pencils, erasers, exercise books and the likes. Of course QASA also donates wheelchairs to underprivileged, disabled people.

Started by The Adventure Company, run by Glenn Foley and Corinne Andrews, to raise funds and awareness for QASA, Quads 4 Quads has raised over R7 million for QASA. Quads 4 Quads is not a race but a fun, social, mobile family holiday for the betterment of others.

Carnival City looks forward to welcoming the riders home on 8 October 2017 and encourages the community to come down to give the riders the hero’s welcome they deserve as covering 250km for eight hours each day is a significant challenge for all able- and disabled riders.

Seven top bands put the “rock” into October – be at The Rocktober Rumble

Seven of South Africa’s top bands are set to rock the socks off music fans with The Rocktober Rumble, at Carnival City on 28 October 2017. In the mix for the rocking show, brought to the Big Top Arena by Nic Rush Productions in association with Tuks FM, are CrashCarBurn, Sweet Resistance, The Parlotones, Prime Circle, Dirty Moonshine, The Narrow and the Newtown Knife Gang.

“Rock is one of the most loved has music genres around the world. We’ve combined legendary rock acts with some of the cutting edge new kids on the block for an unforgettable experience,” says Nic Rush, a well known musician who has played with the likes of South African stalwarts Prime Circle and Watershed.
The Parlotones is one of South Africa’s most prolific rock bands, winning several awards, achieving multi-platinum album-selling status and packing out venues for live concerts from the very beginning.

After notching up six studio albums, several chart-topping singles, a string of awards and countless sold-out gigs, Prime Circle have earned their status as South African rock royalty. Formed in Witbank, Mpumalanga, in 2001, the band has demonstrated true staying power with a dynamic signature sound that continues to evolve in exciting, progressive directions.

CrashCarBurn has carved a niche in the music industry with their powerful rock anthems rock over the last decade. The band was born in 2006 after brothers, Garth and Brendan Barnes, put their incredibly successful punk rock band Tweak to bed and quickly united loyal fans and a new fan base which were equally drawn in by the crisp new sound that instantly won their validation.

Alternative rock band, The Sweet Resistance burst onto the local music scene with the launch of its debut album, Where there is Hope, at two sold out Cape Town shows in 2016. Since their launch, the likes of 5FM, Mix FM, MFM, PukFM and Kovsie FM and more have all chosen to playlist the band’s debut single “Feel”. 5FM rated the track as SA’s hottest track in its first week of release.

Dirty Moonshine delivers loud and raw rock ’n roll with dirty soul, sexy vocals, cutting leads, sweet slides and reverberating bass. Rumbling and thundering from the Gauteng Highveld, Dirty Moonshine has taken their own unique brand of rock’ n roll across the country, with a view to turn every single venue upside down.
In two whirlwind years, Newtown Knife Gang have secured themselves a record deal with Electromode alongside top SA artists such as Jack Parow and Die Heuwels Fantasties, their singles “Read Between the Lines” and “Listen” have enjoyed high rotation on more than 25 national stations. The band has established themselves in a notoriously “tough to crack” live scene, playing coveted slots at major festivals and top venues across the country.

With all three previous full length albums nominated for South African Music Awards and producing classic hits like “Lonely lonely Sunday morning”, “You don't get to quit”, “The Banded”, “God bless the narrow” and many more, The Narrow is one of South Africa's most exciting live acts.

“End October on a high note with some of the very best rock bands that South Africa has to offer. From legendary bands like The Parlotones and Prime Circle to some of the biggest names in rock music right now, Rocktober Rumble has it all. Do not miss this rocking show. Who knows when we will be able to pin down these artists for a collaborative show like this again,” says Michelle Smith, Marketing Manager at Carnival City.

For a rocking good time, don’t miss The Rocktober Rumble at Carnival City’s Big Tope Arena at 16h00 on 28 October 2017. Tickets are on sale at Computicket, ranging in price from R310 to R360 per person.
