SupaDrift Series 03 returns to Carnival City this month

The wildly popular SupaDrift Series returns to Carnival City for the third time on 30 June and 1 July 2017. The SupaDrift Series 03 – Skid Control event promises another adrenalin pumping motorsport spectacular. This time though, the sounds of newly built engines will roar across the East Rand.

The SupaDrift Series ‘sideways craze’ is the art of powersliding through corners at ultra high speeds. A modern motorsport phenomenon, the SupaDrift Series events are geared for the whole family.

“We are expecting two days of super charged drifting, revving motors and things that have never been done here before as we host the third round of the SupaDrift National Series on the 30 June and the 1st July,” says Michelle Smith, Marketing Manager of Carnival City, adding that hosting action packed outdoor extreme sports and motoring events is part of Carnival City’s promise to bring more diverse and exciting events to the metro.

In addition to the SupaDrift Series, Carnival City has hosted several exciting international events like notorious drifter Mad Mike from New Zealand. This time it’s “local and lekker” and SA’s best will be at it again. Drifters will power-slide across the tarmac, with the screech and scream of turbos, the loudness of V8s and the undeniable slide of colourful rear wheel drive cars.

SupaDrift Series’ co-owner, Mikey Skelton states; “The SupaDrift is a conglomeration of excitement and sensory overload; newly built cars will be showcased and seen for the first time at this stop over and we for one can’t wait to watch the country’s best going sideways door to door and wheel to wheel!”.

Series leader, Shane Gutzeit, from Port Shepstone is reveling his last victory at his own track but Jim McFarlane representing Series sponsor Achilles Tyres has already laid down the challenge in his home town and is certainly looking forward to the challenge and moreover the stiff competition.

“It’s a tight track and not very fast, which essentially gives all drivers the opportunity to do well,” he says.

Shortly after dark, on the same day, the parking lot next to the Carnival City Drifting track will host a double fire stunt, by veteran South African stunt crew Enrico Schoeman and Andre’ de Kock.

Schoeman will be set alight, after which he will ride a Harley-Davidson motorcycle through a double fire tunnel. As soon as he is done, De Kock will crash a burning car through a pyramid of burning car wrecks. The pairing are the current and double holders of the Guinness World Record for Riding a Motorcycle through a Tunnel of Fire.

Promising loads of action, this event has tremendous spectator value and motoring enthusiasts are urged to come down to be part of the fun. Tickets are available at the door at R100 for adults and R50 for pensioners/children under 12 years.
