GrandWest has dedicated its Sun Exhibits as a collection point for public donations towards the Southern Cape fire relief effort. Caring citizens can drop off non perishable food items, clothing, blankets, toiletries and sealed water containers at the venue, situated at the main entrance to GrandWest, from 08h00 to 19h00 daily until 15 June 2017. Donations will be distributed by the NG Kerk Plettenburg Bay and NG Kerk Plattekloof to affected communities.
GrandWest has also heeded the call for assistance with relief efforts by donating R30 000 worth of essential items for distribution by the Red Cross Wynberg to affected people in Knysna. The care packages comprise non perishable food such as canned food, rice and bottled water; baby nappies, wipes, porridge, toiletries and formula; adult toothbrushes, toiletries and feminine hygiene products as well as face masks, eye drops and toilet paper.
“We urge the community to assist with a small contribution towards the fire relief efforts. At a time when so many people face an uncertain future, having lost their homes, it is important that we work together to help alleviate their plight. It is the small daily comforts that we may take for granted, like a warm blanket, something to eat and a toothbrush, that will be immeasurably appreciated by the thousands of people who have been displaced by the fires,” says Mervyn Naidoo, the General Manager at GrandWest.
