GrandWest pledges support for 2017 16DaysForYouth

GrandWest once again pledged its support for Heart 104.9’s 16DaysForYouth campaign which saw the radio station shutting down its broadcast studio on 1 June 2017 for 16 days to undertake youth focused projects across the Western Cape. During the journey, Heart 104.9 is broadcasting remotely from various locations and is involved in numerous community projects to help young people in need. The initiative is a spin off from the station’s #HeartBeats4Youth campaign which started out with motivational talks by celebrities at various schools five years ago. It has since evolved into a 16 day drive to contribute to youth upliftment in the province.

As part of this year’s campaign GrandWest sponsored R10 000 in cash to help fund upgrades to the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Abused Women and Children in Heideveld and R15 000 in cash to Miracle Kidz safe house for abused and abandoned children in Constantia. GrandWest has also donated 100 toothbrushes and toothpaste for underprivileged children in Lavender Hill and Hanover Park.

Commenting on the campaign, Mervyn Naidoo, GM of GrandWest says: “Young people from disadvantaged communities in the Western Cape face a precarious future with drugs, violence and unemployment rife. It is important for corporate citizens and members of the public do what they can to divert this situation and offer the young generation hope of a better future. Every little action collaboratively can make a big difference. GrandWest holds the interests of the Western Cape’s youth close its heart and shares the station’s vision to raise awareness, funds and support for youth focused causes.”
