The North West leg of the popular MonsterJam Poker Tour culminated at Sun City on Friday 12 April 2019 with the Main Event regional play offs. Some 250 individual poker players registered to be part of the Sun City installment of the MonsterJam Poker Tour, with the tournament series generating a prize pool of over R12-million between 5 and 13 April.
The winning players from the Sun City tournament will be added to a leader board and national ranking system. The ultimate winner at the end of the year will take the top accolade of MonsterJam Poker Tour Player of the Year and win a trip to play poker internationally. In the current top ten following the Sun City tournament are George Levine, Alvin Pillay, Rudolf Fourie, Robert Blonski, David Rosenthal, Muaaz Gani, Huawei Sun, Shaun Govender, Ali Nawazish and Nicolas Zakhem.
The tournament will head to Sun International’s Wild Coast Sun in the Eastern Cape in June. The 2019 tour kicked off at Sun International’s Carnival City in January, inviting amateur poker players to pit their skills in a nationwide tournament to win substantial cash prizes and the chance to compete internationally. The tour will venture to more Sun International casinos across South Africa during the course of the year, with an estimated prize pool of over R40-million.
The MonsterJam Poker Tour also features a tournament within a tournament, the Monster Million Accumulator, which also started at Carnival City and will continue through each stop throughout the year. The Monster Million Accumulator guarantees a first prize of R1-million, which will be awarded after the last stop of the season at Time Square Casino in Pretoria.
