DIRECT FROM NEW YORK AND FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SOUTH AFRICA! #MENINTUTUS

An all-male comedy ballet danced by 16 prima dancers
from 7 countries around the world.

We’re just 10 days away from the arrival of Les Ballet Eloelle’s MEN IN TUTUS – on stage at Artscape Opera House for 4 shows only from 18th to 21st April.

Humour in classical ballet is hard to find, and this is one reason for the enduring popularity of this fabulous troupe of male ballerinas.  Direct from New York, Les Ballets Eloelle's latest international production Men In Tutus is the most spectacular, talented and hilarious all-male comedy ballet ever!

The internationaly company has dancers from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Spain, Japan and The Philippines for this tour.

Men In Tutus will open at the Teatro, Montecasino, on Friday 12 April and will run for four performances only, until it moves to Cape Town, the Artscape Opera House from 18 to 21 April 2019.

Classical ballet likes to take itself seriously, which may explain why you don’t get many comedies on the ballet stage. Yet those of us who love tutus and tiaras also like nothing better than to laugh with the hairy man-ballerinas!

Artistic Director (and also a principal dancer in the show), Victor Trevino states;
"Our mission is to help bring new audiences to dance through comedy. We are essentially sharing the love of an artform with as broad of an audience as possible. Our hope is that audiences that come to our show who have never been to a ballet will consider seeing traditional (serious) dance. There is this mystique that dance is too difficult to understand and is only for audiences who have a deep knowledge of culture and art. We hope to change that misconception using comedy as a means to expose audiences to the magic of dance.
Those who love ballet will certainly see the choreography and skill of the dancers that's expected in a traditional ballet."
Trevino continues; This is a family friendly show. If you have never been to the ballet come out and join us, you will have a great time. If you have seen ballet, don’t miss this! You will have a deep appreciation for what you see and will have a great laugh at the same time. Also, we will be doing selfies after the show! We want to meet our audiences."

Men In Tutus will feature the following:
Pas de Quatre
Pas de Deux, Le Corsaire
A parody of George Balanchine’s choreography, Go for Barocco
Swan Lake

From the thrilling pirouettes of the male dancers (in male and female costumes) with brilliant choreography to the side-splitting humour, all presented in specifically-designed lavish costumes, Victor Trevino’s Men In Tutus is a show designed for the whole family!

South African audiences will recognise British dancer, Joel Morris, who has traveled to the Johannesburg on a number of occasions, having performed previously with Joburg Ballet in shows like The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.
