One of South Africa’s largest and most respected all style dance competitions, the prestigious Battle of the Giants All Styles Dance Festival, (commonly known as BOTG) returns toSun City from 28 to 31 March 2019. Now in its 29th year, the event will host to 63 (sixty-three) dance schools from all over the country, with dancers showing off their latest artistic styles and choreographed performances for the local and international judges.
This internationally-recognised event is organised and sanctioned by the South African Body of Dance (SABOD) and the IDO (International Dance Organization) and organised by Bev Wood and her team. Bev Wood is both President of the SABOD and the South African IDO Representative. “We are very grateful for the support shown this year considering the current economic climate. This competition provides the dancers with an exciting opportunity to perform and showcase their talent at the internationally acclaimed Sun City Resort and we are grateful to them for their longstanding commitment and partnership of this event,” explains Wood. “We wish all the dancers an unforgettable experience, and to the local and international judges, as well as our sponsors, thank you for investing in the sport of dance so that we can continue to compete at an international level.”
This year the following dance styles are being performed: Hip Hop, Modern, Show dance, Slow Dance, Freestyle, Disco Dance, Popping, Break Dance, Street Dance, as well as Tap, Ballet and Jazz. Individual dancers will have the opportunity to compete for titles and prizes in this year’s competition which is also one of the qualifier events in the World Trial Circuit programme.
Another accolade for the 2019 competition, is the attendance of international judge Samy Böhner from DANCE Austria, who will be joining the judging panel for the Street Dancing category. He has a long list of achievements including World Cup Winner 2008 Productions IDO; Vice-World Champions Small Group 2010 IDO; Trainer & Dancer of Dance Alliance Cup Winner Formations Adults 2018; Trainer of over 35 National Champions; Founder & Owner of DANCE Austria (Dance Studios); Founder of Dance Camps Austria (Summer Dance Camp & Winter Dance Weekend); Teacher & Public Speaker as well Teacher & Coach in Austria and Denmark.
