The countdown has
begun – there are less than 70 days left until the hottest and most innovative
family festival and kids expo hits SA. Funderland is a unique concept that
brings together stage shows, themed fun zones to suit any interest a child
could have, and talent competitions. It’s an 11-day event, packed with magic and
wonder that will thrill the entire family. Whether your child likes dinosaurs,
robots, cooking, sports, princesses or computers and gaming (or something
else entirely), Funderland has something to suit every taste and fire up the imagination. The first-ever
Funderland Expo kicks off at GrandWest in Cape Town from the 28th of
March to the 7th of April 2018.
Part of the
entertainment includes fantastic stage shows by some of SA’s premium entertainers. Russel Fox, known
as “Magician Insane”, will be performing his mind-bending
mentalist, perceptionalist and illusionist acts to dazzle audiences at
Funderland. He is known as one of South Africa’s most inspirational and influential
masters of the art of magic and illusion, and his performances have left people
astounded at the power that can be unlocked by the human mind.
In addition, there
will be many other stage shows to look forward to during the event. Freestyling
soccer trickster Kyle Rinquest combines clever stunts with hilarious comedy,
and is well worth a watch. For those who enjoy music, Steven Winter from the
South African band The Winter Sessions will be joined by an array of top South
African Buskers for an incredible Street Theater Entertainment experience; and
Benji Man’s beatboxing talent
will leave you speechless.
The main stage will
also feature well-known South African artists who will keep the vibe going with
hot, homegrown musical entertainment. Loki Rothman, Desmond Wells, Stephan
Visagie, Nic Stevens, Pierre Rossouw, Tommy Dell, Nadia Louw, Shaun Tait,
Quinton Prinsloo, Burger le Roux and Elvis impersonator James Marais are all on the line
up and visitors will have the opportunity to meet their favourite artists and
even win an autographed CD. The Funderland website will be updated with the
full show schedule.
The kids will love
dancing along with the colourful Lollos and the cheeky Bop Boppers and rugby
enthusiasts will recognise the energetic cheerleading moves of the DHL Stormers
Girls. There will also be fun circus-style acts to keep both the young and
young at heart amazed on the edge of their seats.
According to Heidi
Croxford, Head of Marketing for Funderland, “We have handpicked the stage shows so
that there is a variety of entertaining acts for everyone to enjoy. Fresh,
funny and guaranteed to keep you smiling, our performers are some of the very
best that SA has to offer and we look forward to seeing them in action during
our first ever Funderland event.”
As part of
Funderland’s drive to assist in the development of
local South African talent, the second grand stage will host an open Funderland
Talent Competition as well as a Kwaito Talent competition. Budding SA stars are
encouraged to enter and show off their skills to win great prizes.
Tickets to
Funderland can be purchased on their website at http://funderland.co.za/buy-ticket/ and there are various packages and passes
that can be bought depending on your needs and the size of your family. If you
aren’t in the vicinity
for this event, don’t despair - after hitting Cape Town the festival will be touring the
country during school holidays so that people across SA can get in on the
fun-filled, jam-packed action of Funderland.
