Winter heats up with Rocking the City at GrandWest


GrandWest welcomes five memorable South African artists to the Grand Arena for a rare collaboration concert Rocking the City on 29 July 2017. Taking music fans on a nostalgic journey of authentic South African music from the 1980s to now are MarcAlex, The Boyz, Dawnay, Essential and Da Ballies. They will be supported by Cape Town musicians.

“These artists have been on the local music scene for over twenty years and many music fans will remember them from their heydays. It is a special treat to have them bringing to life on our stage some of the songs which made them famous, as well as new material. We look forward to it,” says Elouise Matthys, the PR and Promotions Manager at GrandWest.

The one night only concert is organised jointly by the producers of shows such as Divas, Divos and Duets and Music Alla Kaap.

The MarcAlex brothers, who are currently working on a new album, made a names for themselves with their chart topping songs, “Quick quick” and "Heartbreakin' love" in the late 1980s.  
The Boyz, considered as one of Cape Town’s original boy bands, is known for songs such as “Stay the night”. The band boasts almost 25 years in the music industry and has shared the stage with top local and international artists.

Formed in the 1990s, Essential is an all girl group which became known for the number one hit, “Give me back my love”. 
Da Ballies, comprising Prince Akeem and Wilfred Aploon, released their massive hit song, “We going up and down” twelve years ago and it still enjoys air time on the radio. Both members have enjoyed great success as solo artists as well.  
    
Dawnay a South African singer and songwriter who is best known for his hit “U touch me” which broke records in when it spent 22 weeks at the top of the charts, trumping international artists like Shaggy and Destiny’s Child, in 2001.       
                
The two hour Rocking the City concert will start at 20h00. Tickets range in price from R125 per person at Computicket.
