Continuing in the spirit of International Mandela Day on 18 July 2017 when 150 120 meals were packed at The Market Hall GrandWest as part of the Rise Against Hunger food packing drive, GrandWest Corporate Social Investment (CSI) contributed to another cause close to its heart.
The team has donated R15 000 towards the Sizakuyenza Centre and Shelter for abused women and children in Philippi. It is acommunity based non-profit organisation that runs HIV/AIDS prevention and education programmes, drug and alcohol abuse prevention programmes and supports victims of domestic violence. Its programmes include free HIV counselling and testing, an alcohol and drug abuse support group, counselling and support for survivors of rape and abuse, workshops on drug awareness and prevention of teen pregnancy, as well as daily youth support groups and homework groups. The organisation also runs a shelter for abused women and children who are provided with three meals a day using vegetables grown in the garden onsite.
“We are humbled by the incredible support the Sizakuyenza Centre and Shelter provides to its community, in particular women and children who have been abused. The wellbeing of children and programme to assist victims of domestic violence are indeed close to our heart. GrandWest CSI is happy to make a contribution to the centre in order to alleviate some of the challenges it faces in offering its services to the community,” says Mervyn Naidoo, General Manager at GrandWest.
