A Beautiful Noise at Rockwood Theater

The newly renovated Rockwood Theater is rocking out with new sounds, a new look and a new vibe. The latest showcase, A Beautiful Noise is a show not to be missed. bringing you the sounds of Country-Rock, by performers such as  Vernon Barnard, Kieran Rennie, Nadine Sisam, Stephan Nel and Candice Kennedy.

The show was just an absolute blast, I couldn't sit still the entire time, I loved all the music, the instrumentals were AMAZING, my favorite being the the sounds of the violin, and the way the cast were so kind helping Vernon on and off stage was heartwarming. There a very few times I feel that i can walk out of a show and want to see it again and feel inspired by it, and this show did that for me. What i really enjoyed, was that I felt like I was seeing an international type concert, which was amazing, because at times you leave a show wondering if that was international stage worthy, his show I didn't wonder that. I was transformed into a world of childhood memories, a decade blast from the past and a whirlwind music from now.

5/5 BluBirds for this production

Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood Review

Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood

On the 6th of November, I had the chance to go and see Janice Honeyman's Robin Hood Panto. Here are my thoughts on it...

I have seen every Panto for the last three years, and previously through school. I love seeing them every year. This year was different. It was by far my favourite. The humour was top notch amidst the political turmoil that is surrounding the world right now. I haven’t laughed so much in a long time. What I really loved, was that normally the Panto brings in a major technical aspect, like a helicopter, or a giant spider, and this year there were the normal cars being involved, but the cast and the story line made the show so great. Don’t get me wrong, I love the technical aspects that are always showcased during the show, but it shows that sometimes you can go back to basics and make an impression. Now let’s go back before I really put two feet in it. The stage, lighting and props were amazing...as always. My point is, that even if there were no amazing backdrops and the cast were wearing paper bags, the show would be amazing because of the content presented.

I would honestly recommend taking your kids, but not only kids would enjoy this, this show is amazing for all ages and is guaranteed to make you laugh and think about political issues in a different light. All ages, races, religions will enjoy this show.

Over 30,000 tickets had already been sold before the opening of  this year’s panto, so best to hurry and get yours now for South Africa’s most popular family entertainment tradition.  Tickets are available by visiting www.joburgtheatre.com or calling 0861 670 670, as well as through Webtickets and at Pick ‘n’ Pay stores. Lauded as a theatre classic of the 20th century by The Times in London, the show’s creator, Slava Polunin is praised as the most illustrious clown in the world.

Critics the world-over rave! “Slava’s Snowshow is as theatrical as it is simple, as involving as it is inspiring.” says Variety while London’s Financial Times describes the show; “spreads a blanket of benevolent charm over the audience, holding them spellbound…” but perhaps the London Daily Telegraph best sums up the experience: “Slava’s Snowshow touches the heart as well as the funny bone. Full of laughter and joy it is a thing of rare theatrical beauty not to be missed”.

Slava’s Snowshow transports you into dream-like places – a bed becomes a boat in a storm-tossed sea; a woman is wrapped in cellophane and becomes flowers in a vase; a child walks in amazement inside a bubble; Slava boards a train and then becomes the train, his chimney-pot hat billowing smoke and a web of unspun cotton envelopes the audiences.  The stunning not-to-be missed finale sees a letter turn into snowflakes, and the flakes turn into a snowstorm that whirls around the auditorium leaving the audience ankle-deep in snow.

A wordless show that leaves you speechless – laughter through tears – the most heart warming show on earth – rare theatrical beauty – blissful – theatrical brilliance – an unforgettable miracle – a pure form of human kindness.  After the show ends, nobody wants to leave the theatre – the joy is remembered forever – each person sees his or her own story in the show, your own world comes to life.

“Slava’s Snowshow is a unique piece of theatre that is difficult to pigeon hole in one genre.  It is comedic, tragic, dramatic and will take the audience out of their day-to-day world and transport them to a beautiful, dazzling, enchanting place that will bring out your inner child.  It is an unmissable theatrical feast and Showtime are proud to be bringing the show to South African audiences.” says Showtime’s Tony Feldman.
