Slash! The Water Circus (Review)

The newly, innovative water circus from Russia touches bases with South Africans this month and next! Silverstar will host this phenomenal show that bring excitement and jaw dropping stunts (I swear I almost had a heart attack at the end)

Okay so I must be honest, I was a little disappointed to hear that held the cast were not able to make it in time because they had problems with their visas. However, the organisers did their best to still put on a show. Some of South Africa’s best acts were given the opportunity to show themselves off on this world renowned stage. I would prefer to stay on the positive side of things, because I had the best time, it was a fun afternoon out and it was a great show, considering the trials and tribulations that had to be dealt with.

The second half was what I expect the whole should have been like, with a large pool of water and water fall vibe above gave spectacular features and made way for one of the best things I have ever seen in my life. Now this is a strong statement s I have seen many phenomenal things in my short life on this earth. BUT THAT!!!! Gosh!

I have never seen such stunts being performed before! There was one heck of a stunt with an enlarged swing and long material that caught the stunt men. That was followed by the South African performers etc. The second half the water came out and the show turned into a magical spectacle! The end though!!!! That was life threatening stunts being performed which captivated the audience like nothing I have ever seen before. There were times I was questioning if the stunt men were going to make it out alive.

I’ve attached some pictures and a video to get your taste buds infused with adventure

MARCO PIERRE WHITE TO SEAR, FLAME AND DRIZZLE AT THE 2017 GOOD FOOD AND WINE SHOW

The world’s first celebrity chef and enfant terrible Marco Pierre White and South Africa’s first Michelin-starred chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen will be turning up the heat as the international headliners at this year’s 2017 Good Food and Wine Show.  South Africa’s largest culinary event opens in Cape Town on Friday 2 June until Sunday 4 June at the CTICC, followed by the Johannesburg show at the Ticketpro Dome from Friday 28 July until Sunday 30 July, culminating at the Durban Exhibition Centre from Friday 27 until Sunday 29 October.
The latest foodie trends will be dished up and South African foodies will have the chance to interact with the line-up of exciting food personalities, including headline chef, restaurateur and foodie Joao Da Fonseca, popularly known as J’Something, who will share his secret recipes by preparing a tasty feast for the shows. As an added bonus, J’Something will take to the stage to perform his music as this multi-talented personality is also the leading man of popular band Mi Casa.
Reza Mahammad, Jenny Morris, Lentswe Bhengu, Sarah Graham, Neill Anthony, Lisa Raleigh,  Sherwyn Weaich and Vanessa Marx are also on this year’s Good Food and Wine menu, in addition to headline sommeliers Lloyd Jusa (Saxon Hotel), Gregory Mutambe (12 Apostles Hotel) and Tinashe Nyamudoka (The Test Kitchen) – who will all share some of their fine wine knowledge with show attendees.

Over 60 000 visitors attended the three Good Food and Wine Shows in 2016, and this year’s footfall is expected to increase with chefs like White and Van der Westhuizen on the bill of fare, the biggest elephant cake in the world and a wide selection of vendors and interactive installations showcasing food and fare from around the globe.  The floor will be divided into nine specific exhibition areas for attendees to explore: Market, Street Food, Gourmet, Baking, Kids, Wellness, Lifestyle, Wine, Beer and Alcohol.

North meets South

Trailblazing British chef Marco Pierre White has been dubbed the world’s first celebrity chef.  White was 33 when he was awarded three Michelin stars and still holds the title as the first British chef and the youngest chef ever to earn this honour. He featured as a star judge and guest on MasterChef Australia where he was called ‘the godfather of modern cooking’.

White has also trained famous chefs like Mario Batali, Gordon Ramsay, Curtis Stone and Shannon Bennett. After retiring from the kitchen in 1999 Marco became a restaurateur and has published several books, including the best-selling cookbook/autobiography White Heat.

“I was last in South Africa in 2014 so I am excited to be returning in 2017 to headline the Good Food & Wine Show for the first time,” says White. “As much as I will be sharing my culinary journey with the visitors attending the shows, I am also looking forward to transferring knowledge and experience to some of the top local talent in South Africa and partaking in the diverse food culture this beautiful country has to offer.”

Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen is South Africa’s first Michelin star chef and owner of JAN Restaurant in Nice on the French Riviera. Also a gifted photographer, food stylist, writer, entrepreneur and businessman, Van der Westhuizen’s humble Middelburg origins set the foundation for his Boereseun and French twist cooking style on Boerekos.
All visitors to this year’s show will get a chance to watch White and Van der Westhuizen in action daily, free of charge, at the Chefs’ Open Theatre. In addition, the two chefs will be cooking up a storm at the Chefs’ Table: smaller, more intimate ticketed events where people will have the chance to meet the chefs, taste their food and sample some of South Africa’s top wines.
“We want to engage with visitors and involve every one of their senses,” says Maria Chieppa, Managing Director of Fiera Milano Exhibitions Africa.  “We have used taste, touch, smell, sight and sound to tell a 360° story about food and wine. It’s a great occasion for food lovers, families and professionals to enjoy food and wine at all levels.”
This year, the show hosts nine theatres, of which seven are free of extra charge for entry, serving up even more value for those attending. The Good Food and Wine Show theatres include: Eat Well/Live Well, Wine Theatre, Baking Theatre, Cake Deco Lab, Chefs’ Table, Chefs’ Open Theatre, Cooking with Chefs, the Kids Deco Lab and the SCASA Barista Championships - a new partnership with the Speciality Coffee Association of Southern Africa (SCASA) partnership and the show to host the 2017 Western Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal Regional Barista Championships.

TIMA REECE RETURNS!
Comeback album “9” drops 2 December

The fans have demanded and she has listened…..

The name TIMA REECE will soon be back on music lovers’ lips when she launches her eagerly anticipated brand new comeback album “9” on 2nd December 2016.

Tima along with her team have been hard at work in studio over the past few months fine-tuning an album that she is proud of.

“9” is a fusion of R&B, Soul, Pop and Trap with the nine-track album exploring relationship dynamics including love, loss and most importantly, the resurrection of hope.

This is all close to Tima’s heart, having stepped away from a budding solo career nine years ago after the pressures, constant demands and disappointments of the industry took hold, and depression followed.

Not leaving the industry entirely, Tima decided to “take a step back” and perform in shows, corporate events and the like under her birth name, Tia Herman, after having married the equally talented Kurt Herman; now also her business partner on a number of projects.  She has since been one of the most sought after vocalists and vocal coaches since then, working on projects such Idols, The Voice SA and many others whilst also being a reputable show producer along with Kurt, in her own right.

Tima literally exploded onto the SA Music Scene at a young age, having been discovered at 15 in the television series Shell Road to Fame. Her first hit single Crazy ‘Bout You was released at just 16 years of age, garnering her a SAMA Best Dance Single Nomination in 2001. The industry and public alike sat up and took notice! A new star was born.

She was quickly snapped up by a New York based recording company and at 18, she was on a plane and starting her international recording career. Whilst based in New York Tima had the unforgettable experience of writing with many influential names in the industry, such as Calvin Gaines, Mark Wilson, Mike Mason, and Marc Dorsey – people who have written and produced albums for stars such as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.

Shortly after Tima’s return to South Africa from the United States, her debut album was released, with its well-deserved success earning her a SAMA Award nomination in the Best R&B Category in 2004.

Hits such as You Should Know and My Body’s Crying further established her as a popular R&B artist and these hits still enjoy high rotation on local radio stations more than a decade later….

Says Tima of her return to the solo spotlight; My desire to create music has always been a huge part of who I am. I’ve been writing songs since the age of 11 and I have a whole lot more to say now at the age of 33. I’ve been through a whole lot over the last 9 years, it’s time to pour it out into what I know best; music.”

She continues; “My greatest influence is my children. I had a look at my past and realised that if I don’t pursue my dreams and give it my all, when the time comes for me to push my sons towards their destiny, I would have no leg to stand on. I want to be a positive role model for them. A go-getter.”

Tima’s latest offering shows off her silky vocals while a cameo of ProVerb on the trap ballad “Nguwe” brings about the crème of rap innovators. The sultry songstress uses dark and sensual beats that explore a multitude of genres that will appeal to mass audiences.

Tima has always enjoyed a close affinity with her fans even during this 9-year hiatus and the excitement from them with the expectations of this new release is undeniable. She looks forward to being on a stage performing for them, soon. For her, it’s one of the best experiences in the world!

The album will be released at an exclusive industry event on 29 November and thereafter will be available for public download on iTunes as from 2nd December and other regular music channels.

The first single “9” will be released to all radio stations on 2 December so listen out for it and request it with your favourite station.
