Father’s Day on Sunday 18 June 2017 will be marked with man-sized fun and scrumptious food at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom. The culinary teams at the resort’s exquisite Aqua, Royal Court and Africa2Asia (A2A) restaurants have pulled out all the stops to create sumptuous spreads that will pave the way to dads’ hearts this Fathers Day.

“Show your appreciation for your dad or the fatherly figure in your life by bringing him to Sibaya for a satisfying, man-styled meal. There will be a host of activities taking place at the complex on the day, making for a vibrant atmosphere,” says Shailendra Singhthe Food and  Beverage Manager at Sibaya.

The Royal Court, which is renowned for its exceptional food and service, presents a hearty, heritage menu featuring lamb on the spit and roast chicken accompanied by a selection of authentic South African salads and homemade bread rolls. The feast culminates with Bar One mini cake squares topped with Chantilly cream and strawberry cheesecake squares. The cost per head is R350 and booking is essential on (031) 580 5168 or email restaurantsibaya@suninternational.com.

At Aqua, the Fathers Day spread is inspired by the beautiful KwaZulu-Natal coastline and climate. Fresh, colourful and light the menu features a choice of three starters, main meals and desserts. The choice of starters includes shrimp samosas served with a tasty peanut dip; salmon fish cake with sweet chili sauce or crumbed mushrooms served with tartar sauce. For mains there is a choice between pan-fried chicken fillet with a creamy mushroom sauce, topped with three grilled prawns; a succulent T-bone steak with fresh garden vegetables and wedge potatoes, or tagliatelle tossed in a fresh tomato, coriander and chili sauce. Dessert is a choice between an Aqua Don Pedro or baked strawberry cheesecake with mango coulis and caramelized baby pear. The cost is R275 per head and booking is recommended on (031) 580 5168 or email restaurantsibaya@suninternational.com.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert

Priscilla Queen of the Desert was absolutely one of the BEST productions I have ever seen. Normally when I see a production, musical or show of any kind there is normally something I could critique or something that maybe didn't sit well with me etc... but with this show, I have nothing negative to say.

The music was absolutely world class, there is a live orchestra and singers performing the songs, which were all songs the audience could sing along too. Preforming hits like "Raining men", "I will Survive", "True Colours" and many many more. The dancing to go along with the music was fantastic, no one missed a beat. The actors were in sync, they were energetic, passionate and didn't stop for a second. It was amazing to watch, I could not tear my eyes away from them.

Now the costumes! WOW, WOW, WOW... My favourite was the one below that looked like a hot air balloon/clown/anchor combination. I loved the colours, the over the top wigs, the way no body fell even, though I was half expecting someone too and the attention to detail was immaculate.  To be honest I loved all of the costumes, they had costumes ranging from plain sweats, to angel wings made out of neon lights, to tight leotards made of glitz and glamour, to hillbilly and cowboy looks. They were truly breath taking.

Pricilla....the bus's special effects and lighting were out of this world. We sat there wondering how they created this effect and still have no idea. It made the festivities of the show that much greater and really was a highlight of the entire show.

Overall the reason why I loved this show so much was because it had laughter, music, and dancing...but most importantly it was relatable and very much prevalent in our world today. There is still so much discrimination in the LGBT and Trans community, that a musical adapted from a film that was made many moons ago, that had meaning and purpose then, still carries such a strong and positive connotation now. It was the first show that I can remember from the many shows that I have seen, that I actually shed a tear and got emotional. Only for a brief time, so please don't think I sat there balling my eyes out, but there was a scene that was so powerful because it was so honest and open. The scene accompanied by the song "True Colours" showed the vulnerability and unacceptance of the character, which is a reality that so many face today in society. It was so powerful and moving. Besides that the musical was hilarious, naughty and amazingly choreographed. This show just leaves you with a feel good feeling, and that was amazing.

"Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a heart-warming and uplifting tale of three drag artist friends who hop aboard a battered old bus aka “Priscilla” and go off on the adventure of a life-time through the Australian Outback, to perform in Alice Springs.  On the way they find friendship, love and far more than they ever dreamed of."

ESSENCE CREASE CUT REVIEW

I have always LOVED LOVED LOVED using Essence Products. Firstly, well, because they are really well priced. Secondly, their products are not too harsh on the skin or nails. Thirdly because they are always coming up with new, FABOULOUS ideas to keep their fans coming back. Essence has always been my go to product if I needed something that didn’t cost me a while kidney and a liver along with my youth and selling my soul to the devil. They really cater for all skin types, most economic statuses and is readily available at almost all Dischem and Most Clicks stores.
Okay so I digress, (what’s new), in this video I decided to try out the half crease cut that was actually inspired by Manny Mua. (Love him by the way, him and Jefree star should totally come to South Africa) Anyywaaayyyyyy.... I loved the challenge of the look, and though not overly dramatic, was a fun and actually easy look to create. (once i got the just of it) I loved that the Essence products bought that soft yet pigmented touch to the look that I was trying to create. The pallets that I used were form the Beauty Bloggers Secrets Series and they are a MUST HAVE. They are not only great with their colours and pigments, but Essence has given Bloggers a voice. I love the fact that the products were created by bloggers for bloggers but also for people who aspire to them, and even to those who don’t. Everything is so well planned and well thought out, which you can see in the packaging as well as the actual products.
All products can be found on the Dischem website or in store.
Thanks Essence for bringing out yet another product I HAD to try.

For the availability of the product I rate 4/5 (some stores were sold out instantly, not a bad thing for Essence, but bad for customers who couldnt find their desired pallets)

For the packaging , marketing, and thought behind the product I rate 5/5. The packaging was fantastic

For the OVERALL look, pigments and colours I give 5/5

BORN TO PERFORM GALA CONCERT 2016

BORN TO PERFORM GALA CONCERT 2016

STARS OF TODAY AND BUDDING STARS OF TOMORROW LIGHT UP THE STAGE

The Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City
Saturday 10 December at 2pm & 7:30pm

After the sell-out success of the inaugural concert in July last year which also made great waves in the entertainment industry, Born To Perform is back again to stage their annual Gala Concert in December with plans to be bigger than before!

Born To Perform Gala Concert 2016 takes place at The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City for TWO performances this year, Saturday 10 December at 2pm and 7:30pm.

In keeping with the theme of “Today’s stars performing with the stars of tomorrow”, audiences will delight in seeing The Graeme Watkins Project, chart-toppers Alexandra May and Ashlinn Gray share the stage with the young talent that blew audiences away last year, that being Marianthe Panas, Josh Middleton, The Buzz and Joshua Moreira.

Joining them on stage this year will also be popular Idols finalist Loyiso Gijana singing “Gravity” with 14-year old Keely Crocker from Durban.

This year’s concerts will include the addition of video performances from industry greats Louise Carver and Ard Matthews performing the big Just Jinjer hit, “Shallow Waters” with 13-year old Joshua Moreira.

Isabella Jane and her side-kick Rosie, a big highlight of last year’s Gala Concert, will be the MC for the two performances.

The Born To Perform platform held nationwide auditions and has secured some of the most talented children and teens from around South Africa from all fields of music, dance and musical theatre to join these illustrious performers on stage .

In this years show Born To Perform will be showcasing excerpts from new Broadway Musicals that are yet to arrive in South Africa such as Hamilton, The Waitress and Once, all with the young performers taking the leads.

Other highlights will include a Beatles tribute, a nostalgic musical medley from the classical musicals ranging from 1940’s to current day, Nella Fantasia for those liking a classical aria, Name in Lights from The Boy from Oz, Tell Him and others…..

Born To Perform is a platform created by Gemma Donnelly Marinus and Matthew Marinus to create professional opportunities in the Performing Arts Industry for young budding talented children and teens.

Originally coming from the UK, Gemma has been a major player in the musical theatre industry in SA for over 8 years before opening up an elite performing arts school  (Stageworx School Of Performing Arts) in 2009.  www.stageworx.co.za

Passionate about growing a bright future for our budding artists Gemma and Matthew are heavily involved in training and showcasing the future stars of SA.

Matthew is best known as the talented drummer for The Graeme Watkins Project, but most recently is fast making a name for himself as “Dream Canvas Productions” - video production company he has recently formed - where he produces music videos and EPK’s for SA artists.

The combination of Matthew and Gemma has led to the Born To Perform Platform.

The Born To Perform Gala Concert 2016 is once again inspired by the annual Royal Variety Show in England. These budding local performers will be teaming up with some of SA’s favourite artists to show the world what South Africa has to offer.

Says Gemma Donnelly Marinus; “Last year’s show was a huge success and gave rise to many opportunities for our 2015 standouts in a variety of professional mediums this year; from theatre shows to TV appearances, recordings and the inclusion in music videos to name a few. We are welcoming some of these standouts back to the 2016 Gala to now share the stage with the next stream of young talented artist to continue this plan of finding talent, developing it, then developing opportunities for them to shine on professional stages.”

The evening promises to be a dazzling display of song and dance provided by our leading stars alongside a wide array of budding talent.

Award-winning stage show, Beautiful Creatures, a must see for the whole family this December

Award-winning stage show, Beautiful Creatures, a must see for the whole family this December

Johannesburg (November 2016) - Beautiful Creatures in association with Blu Blood are excited to announce the return of the award-winning children’s stage production, Beautiful Creatures, at the Theatre of Marcellus, Emperors Palace from the 8th to the 18th December 2016.

Following on the huge success of their shows in 2010 and 2011, this fun, educational and interactive 60-minute show is back by popular demand and features some of Beautiful Creatures’ most loved characters.

The musical tells the story of the shy and quiet Imvubu the Happiest Hippo and how he got to be so happy.  We join him on his journey of self-discovery as he befriends Mafutha the Elephant, learns dance steps from Tallulah the Tortoise and finds his “inner roar” with the help of Lucas the Lazy Lion.

This popular South African children’s brand was created in 2004 by Alan Glass, Ed Jordan and Paul Choritz.

Using the best session musicians, actors and singers, Beautiful Creatures prides itself on being uniquely South African with a positive global message,” says co-founder, Paul Choritz.

The last five years has seen them releasing seven albums which have achieved multi-platinum and gold album sales in South Africa, as well as four children’s books (their fifth book ‘Underwater Zoo’ will be released in 2017) and a series of educational toys.  They have also received two SAMA nominations and received the Naledi Award for Best Children’s Production in 2010.

In a world where parents and children have limited quality time, Beautiful Creature’s mission is to bring families together offering a uniquely South African brand with an educational and positive message,” adds Alan Glass.

The production is directed by esteemed director and actress, Gina Shmukler.

“Beautiful Creatures is a must for the whole family.  There is a message in every single song.  I think the whole world will fall in love with Beautiful Creatures once they see the stage show,” comments Ed Jordan.

Tickets cost R85 and are available through Computicket online (http://online.computicket.com/web/event/beautiful_creatures/1083202143) and various Computicket outlets.

Emperors Palace is located at 64 Jones Road, Kempton Park, Johannesburg.

On a side note, take it from someone who has seen this show, taking my two little cousins to see it, they enjoyed it so much. It is a very well put together show, with many laughs and educational lessons to be had. Do yourself a favour if you have children this December, book your tickets now.
