Become immersed in the rich sounds of popular classical music pieces in a beautiful garden setting under an African sky as the German Rhine Philharmonic Orchestra entertains you at CLASSICS IN THE GARDENS at Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens on Sunday 22 May from 2:30pm to 5pm.

 

In Johannesburg for Mozart’s THE MAGIC FLUTE, the illustrious international orchestra have added this delightful picnic-style concert to their schedule to futher delight Johannesburg audiences during their visit.

 

At this concert, the German Rhine Philharmonic Orchestra will perform works including Meine Lippen küssen so heiß (Lehar), La donna e mobile and Libiamo (Verdi), Habanera (Bizet), O mio babbino caro andNessun dorma (Puccini), O sole mio (Di Curtis) and of course several numbers from The Magic Flute,amongst others.

 

Adding further flair to the afternoon, various soloists will be joining the orchestra including; Musa Nkuna(tenor); Eddie Motlhakoane (tenor); Kgotso Tsekeletsa(tenor); Aleksandra Olzyck (colotura soprano); Anna Nesyba (soprano); Viola Zimmermann (mezzo) andNicholas Ndadane (bass baritone).

 

The German Rhine Philharmonic Orchestra is a professional orchestra that has prolonged its activity in two important cities of North Rhine-Westphalia, Cologne and Düsseldorf.

 

This orchestra has in its structure musicians from two orchestras, the Cologne Orchestral Society, established in 1888 and the Heinrich Heine Symphonic Orchestra of Düsseldorf, established in 1992.

 

The GRPO has performed in many concerts not only in Germany, but also abroad. To mention here are the successful concert tours in Hungary in 2001, France in 2003, Poland and Albania in 2014.

The German Rhine Philharmonic Orchestra has invited and welcomed very well-known artists from around Germany such as Hermann Baumann (Horn), Frank Lloyd (Horn), Helge 

Slaato (Violin), Liv Migdal (Violin), Elena Tanski (Violin), Caroline Merz (Soprano), Claudius Tanski (Piano), Wassily Gerassimez (violoncello), Gottfried Engels (Contrabass) and also has 

worked with guest conductors as Oliver Leo Schmidt, Hermann Wagner, Michael Barth, David de Villiers and Thomas Grothe.

 

Since 2012 the principal conductor of the GRPO isDesar Sulejmani, a conductor with a huge potential and a very extensive symphonic and opera repertoire.

 

Under the direction of maestro Sulejmani, the orchestra has established a dynamic development regarding the performing programs, the variety of the concerts and also creation of 

new artistic arrangements.

 

In this perspective, the conductor and the orchestra are recently being focused in expanding the repertoire with special works of contemporary composers as Braas, Sandberger, 

Riehm, and also in combining these contemporary works with traditional classic repertoire.

The German Rhine Philharmonic Orchestra, as part of the Cologne Orchestral Society and Heinrich Heine Symphonic Orchestra, has participated in musical festivals and activities in 

Germany and Europe, such as the International Organ Festival of Düsseldorf, the German Cultural Weeks in Poland, the German October in Albania.

In the light of the future international collaborations, the German Rhine Philharmonic Orchestra will perform in May 2016 at the opera project The Magic Flute at Joburg Theatre in 

Johannesburg, South Africa for four performances only from 18 - 24 May..

In October 2016 the GRPO will tour with concerts in the region of Emiglia Romana (Ferrara, Mantova Bologna), Italy.

CLASSICS IN THE GARDENS takes place for ONE concert only at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens, Malcolm Road, Poortview, Roodepoort onSunday 22 May, from 2:30pm to 5pm. 

 

Tickets are R250 with Family Packages available. There is no charge for children under the age of 6 years.
